Clues for Uncovering the Mysteries of Grammar and the English Language

Home | Morphemes | Parts of Speech | Links | Roots and Affixes

If any of you are like me, then you've got some major questions about this crazy language called English. Throughout my homeschooling years (K-8), and even during high school (California public school), people tried to teach me the importance of grammar, as well as the very basics of English structure. There was just one problem... none of it made any sense to me! Finally, after years of being in the dark about some basic elements of English I've come to realize that some of this grammar stuff isn't nearly as difficult as I thought it to be.

The reason that I am here is to share some of the linguistic and grammatical elements that I think are helpful in order to have a clear understanding of how the English language works. I'll introduce some basic linguistic and grammar ideas as well as highlight a few important structural areas of the English language. This site is specifically geared for Junior high and Highschool homeschoolers who, like me, are interested in getting some extra insight into the English language, as well as those who need a review or an extra reference. Of course anyone is welcome to view the site regardless of age or education. Feel free to use information from this site however need be.

Now with all that said, please sit back, relax (it isn't as scary as you think) and lets start learning!

The information I'm sharing is pretty basic grammar "stuff" and the books I'm using for my personal reference are Analyzing English Grammar, Fourth Edition
by Thomas P. Klammer and The Bedford Handbook by Diana Hacker. There are plenty of good instruction books and handbooks available, so don't be afraid to look around for what is best for you.
